Brewing news USA: Pyramid Breweries wins two medals at world beer cup 2006

Pyramid Breweries Inc. announced on April 27 that it has achieved another milestone by earning two medals at the World Beer Cup held recently in Seattle. Dubbed the Olympics of beer competition, this year's event featured more than 2,000 entries representing 540 brewers in 56 countries.

Confirming their beers can successfully compete on the world stage, Pyramid's flagship brand, Pyramid HefeWeizen(TM), was named Bronze medalist in the American Style HefeWeizen category. Pyramid CrystalWeizen(TM) earned the Bronze medal in the American Style Wheat Beer category. Pyramid has now earned a total of 9 medals at the World Beer Cup, including 5 for Wheat Beer.

"No country in the world makes award-winning beers in so many styles as America's craft brewers such as Pyramid," said Charlie Papazian, President of the Brewers Association, which conducts the World Beer Cup competition.

In U.S. competition, Pyramid's award-winning line of craft beers has earned more than 30 medals at the Great American Beer Festival since its inception in 1983, with 7 medals in wheat beer categories, the most of any craft brewer in the United States.

"World Cup medals for our Weizen Beers confirm our unique competency in producing wheat beers that are among the world's finest," said John Lennon, CEO, Pyramid Breweries Inc. "Congratulations are due to Mark House, George Arnold and the entire Pyramid Beverage Division Operations Team for this achievement and for their daily efforts in crafting our line of incomparable beers."

"These World Cup results show why today's American beer culture is widely admired by beer experts all over the world," said Ray Daniels, Director of Craft Beer Marketing for the Brewers Association. "American brewers such as Pyramid have mastered the beers of Europe and helped innovate a whole range of new flavors as well."

Pyramid Breweries Inc. is a leading brewer of specialty, full-flavored beers and sodas produced under the Pyramid, MacTarnahan's and Thomas Kemper brands. The independent company owns two alehouse restaurants adjacent to its full-production breweries under the Pyramid Alehouse and MacTarnahan Taproom brand names in Berkeley, California, and Portland, Oregon, respectively, and three alehouse restaurants in Walnut Creek and Sacramento, California, and Seattle, Washington.
